Today’s runner combines a couple of odd bedfellows. Rock guitar and the ballet. In this case it is the Cincinnati Ballet by way of the Joyce Theater in New York with this, a seven song score from guitar great Peter Frampton. The show was performed in the spring of 2014 and was choreographed by Cincinnati Ballet’s Adam Hougland. The soundtrack, released shortly after to poor, ill-informed reviews, quickly disappeared with little notice or fanfare. Make no mistake, this is a brilliant score. Beautifully written and perfectly balanced. The music is preformed in earnest with rich warm acoustic guitar. It is sophisticated and restrained. Powerful, yet never overpowering. It reminds me of Frampton’s early work on the Humble Pie album Town and Country. I highly recommend picking it up.
