A Trick of the Tail

One of my favorite Genesis albums, Phil Collins steps up to the microphone for the first time to shoulder the lead vocal duties. A Trick of the Tail takes the group a step back into the whimsical fairytale subject matter of its predecessors Foxtrot and Selling England by the Pound and nudges them a small step toward the pop side. Peaking at number 31 on the Billboard Top 200, this lebretto is perfect with headphones for a twilight run on the edge of darkness, taking you through a musical landscape painted with flourishes of dangerous absurdity that include a mad hatted swindler, a squonk and a horn, tailed antagonist.
