It’s nice to hear the absolutely beautiful instrument that is Annie Lennox’s voice still ring through the airwaves these days. Nostalgia is Lennox’s 6th solo album in the 20 plus years since the Eurythmics split. Every one better than the last, and this is no exception. Here she covers various Jazz and R&B standards including several Hoagy Carmichael numbers, the Porgy and Bess classic Summertime, and Ellington’s Mood Indgo just to name a few. There are many reasons you should buy this record, but for me it is her incredibly haunting rendition of Billie Holiday’s Strange Fruit. It’s chilling, and utterly sobering.

She is the reason I’ll be watching the Grammys this year!

Today, divas are a dime a dozen, and there is certainly a lot more “gaga” and “bling” out there than ever before. Sunday’s Grammy Show is sure to be loaded. But you won’t find an elder statesman, or in this case states-woman, who is more beautiful and has the style, chic and pipes to go with it. She is the complete package, and given Annie’s reputation, I’m sure her performance on Sunday will be a sight to behold.

To wet your whistle, here is her duet with Bowie & Queen back in 1992.
Enjoy some Nostalgia.
