In 1954 Dave Brubeck, along with Paul Desmond (sax), Bob Bates (bass) and Joe Dodge on drums set out on tour hitting collage campuses throughout the Midwest. Jazz, which was typically played in theaters and clubs, for the first time was brought to and introduced to a younger audience. In doing so, Brubeck gained a fan base which would continue to follow him for years through the 50’s and 60’s making him one of the most popular jazz musicians of his generation. Brubeck remains one of the most popular and influential jazz artists of the 20th century. He continued to write, play and perform well into the 21st. Brubeck died a year ago, one day shy of his 92nd birthday.
Jazz Goes To Collage. A little music between exams. Enjoy.
