The Ideal Copy

wire-theidealcopy

In 1987 I was in my 20s living in Chicago, frequenting dance clubs like Exit and the Smart Bar on the north side. We use to partake in substances that would allow us to go non stop late into the early morning. “Catching the rabbit, pressing skin, collecting an ear, tearing about…tearing about.” It felt very much like that dance scene from the Matrix Reloaded movie. My experience with Wire started here with their first album in 8 years, chalked full of dark, ominous rhythms that snake and drill through the listener’s body and soul. Like the song says,”We’re milling through the grinder, grinding through the mill, if this is not an exercise could it be a … DRILL?”

When it’s cold I feel cold, when it’s hot I feel ambitious!

The Ideal Copy clocks in at one hour.
Enjoy!

Harvest

Happy Thanksgiving and thank you Mr. Neil Young for decades of music that transcends love, life, passion, family, and politics. Harvest is a time of gathering, crops, meat, wine, friends, family, new and old together for a blessed thankful feast. Fall has always been my favorite time of the year, changing time.

Enjoy your harvest, David

Alice Cooper

Alice Does Alice

The Godfather of Shock Rock has been on stage for 5 decades, I was a huge fan during the 70’s. When Alice released the most shockingly and provocative rock albums; School’s Out (1972), Billion Dollar Babies (1973), Muscle of Love (1973), and Welcome to My Nightmare (1975). I wore these albums out on my cheap record player.

April 25, 1975, Alice Cooper’s video concept performance, “The Nightmare” premiered on TV at midnight. In the TV special, Alice Cooper stars as “Steven” who is trapped in a nightmare he can’t wake up from and tries to escape. Vincent Price also appears throughout the special, starring as the “Spirit of the Nightmare”. The special features the Welcome To My Nightmare album in its entirety, with the addition of the song “Ballad of Dwight Frye” from the Alice Cooper album Love It to Death. “The Nightmare” won an Emmy in 1976 for Outstanding Achievement in Video Tape Editing for a Special.

I was a freshman in high school not quite 15 years old. My buddy decided, I would spend the night at his house. Watch the show and get up early and ride our bikes with our surfboards to College Point on the UCSB campus. The show was awesome and the surf wasn’t too bad from what I can remember.

Alice just played nearby at the Chumash Casino, a friend went to the show and said it rocked. I should have gone. Dammit! So if you still are in doubt that Alice Cooper can’t rock listen to “Alice does Alice” 5 songs re-recorded in 2010. It is fresh spin of classic Alice.

Enjoy the Music, David

Nothing Is Wrong

Dawes is a Los Angles Folk Rock band formed in 2009 that has captured the Laura Canyon Sound of the 70’s. If you love David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, Neil Young, James Taylor and the Eagles, this band will become your new favorite. The song “So Well” will put you back in time. Take a canyon hike, listen and get lost in the music.

Enjoy the hike,

David

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

Push the Sky

My latest run makes me turn and think as I walk on my beach. I have been a Nick Cave fan for a long time and only seen him once. So this latest creative release is my “Eight Bells”. You can smell the sea in this seedy violent harbor town with all it’s superstitions. Mermaids and whores are a arching theme of perceived love. Listen carefully for the fog bells, ships drum, breath deeply, sit in a hot bath and soak it in. Jubilee Street.

Enjoy the Music.

The National

Alligator

Alligator

“I’ had a secret meeting of the basement of my brain”. Something I do all the time.

A friend turned me on this band The National. This is their 3rd album named Alligator. I think this band is The Smiths for the new millennium. A little depressing and uplifting all at the same time. Perfect harmony for the basement of my brain. I can’t stop listening. Give this a run, it remind me of the scent of an old lovers perfume with my eyes closed.

Enjoy the music,

David
