Money Jungle

This month drummer Terri Lyne Carrington released her reworked interpretation of the classic album Money Jungle. For anyone who is a fan of jazz, I highly recommend picking it up.  Carrington’s version, titled Money Jungle Provocative In Blue, is a fresh new take on this old favorite and sounds great from start to finish!

The original album released in 1962 brought together three of the major players of the time. 50 years ago the super trio of Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach briefly came together to record this now classic post-bop avant-garde gem. Almost exclusively penned by Duke, Money Jungle stripped out the big band swing sound Ellington was renowned for, and allowed the three masters to play off each other in a very intimate setting. There are unique reworks of Ellington’s Solitude and Caravan here on the expanded edition that are transforming and quite meditative.
