The Afghan Whigs – Gentlemen

The Iconic Fillmore West in the San Francisco 1993. I was going to see Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds play a concert. The warm up band was The Afghan Whigs. No big deal, watch the band in the balcony and wait for Nick. Well things changed! This band from Cincinnati, Ohio blew my mind. I have never heard a lead singer/Guitarist (Greg Dulli) spill his soul out like that before, I was hooked. I bought everything that the Whigs had ever recorded.

Gentlemen is still one of my favorite albums of all time. To put these songs it in a nutshell I’d say liquor-drenched obsession, secrets and misery with a little hope.
