Before you can run, you must master The Art of Walking, the title of the forth album from Cleveland based art-house band Pere Ubu. But don’t use this set to steady your cadence. It’s more an exercise in instability. Led by stochastic front man David Thomas (no, not the Wendy’s guy) Pere Ubu exists on the fringes, tangent to the turbulent punk movement of the late 70’s, early 80’s, yet its velocity is consistently inconsistent. Pere Ubu oscillates between nonsense, chaos and febrility. I liken it to a peek inside the mind of an insane person or, at best one that is unbalanced, which is why I’m sure it continues to resonate with me.
