In 1986, I attended a Screaming Blue Messiahs show at Cabaret Metro with my friend Jay W. Bicknell. At this show I saw the lead guitarist Bill Carter get into a knock down fist fight with bass guitar player Chris Thompson over what appeared to be a disagreement over the tempo of the song they were playing. Carter wanted Thompson to pick up the pace, and when he didn’t to Carter’s satisfaction it came to blows on stage. My friend and I just looked at each other and said, “this is the greatest show ever!” After a brief pause to clean up a bloody nose and reset the stage, the band ripped back into the set dropping loud screaming rockabilly bombs from this, there debut album, Gun Shy.
It’s really cold out this morning, so this will help keep pace. Careful though, it is fully loaded.
