Goodness me, goodness me industrial disease.

Around the time that big hair and parachute pants were all the fashion a new sound was being forged on the streets of Chicago by a small independent label and record store called Wax Trax Records. Bands like Ministry and The Revolting Cocks found a home and began creating a buzz that would later become known as Industrial Dance music.

Today’s Runner, RevCo’s 1990 release Beers, Steers & Queers may sound a little primitive by today’s standards, but back then, on the Chicago dance club scene, it was all the rage. Clocking in at over and hour and fifteen minutes, you’re guaranteed to lose 5 pounds sweating to this oldie.

Love Junk

The 20 something sound of The Pursuit of Happiness’ debut could easily have been forged in the late 60’s, the 90’s or either decade in between. It’s good old fashion, hard driven Rock & Roll. Love Junk discusses, cheating, murder, rape and suicide. It also tackles the innocence and naiveté of youth, sex, and of coarse, man’s best friend, all from the slightly tainted POV of someone who has been around the block a few too many times.

This is one of those rare album that sounds great right out of the box, and then the older you get, the more in focus it becomes…

Enjoy the Melodic Sunshine

After the millennium things were different. The world became a little darker, and it wasn’t the Y2K scare, but rather a series of events culminating around the 11th day in September of 2001 that created a sanctioned viewpoint of hatred, fear, and lies; started multiple wars; and brought the world economy to the brink of financial collapse.

During that time a ray of Sunshine came into my world, and on September 20th 2002 my life became a whole lot brighter.

Today’s Runner is a trippie throwback to the Birds, Pet Sounds, CSN and the harmonies of another time, and like my daughter, when set against today’s “New and Noteworthy”, Cosmic Roughriders’ melodic sound is as beautiful, unique and out of place as a sparkle in the rain.

“Highway to the morning sun, highway to the morning sun, highway to the morning sun, and the morning sun is you.”
